Effingham County Housing Authority 

Completed Project

Award- $499,200

The Effingham County Housing Authority provides housing assistance to residents in Effingham, Dieterich, Edgewood, Montrose, and Altamont, IL. With the awarded funds, the Effingham County Housing Authority made energy efficiency upgrades in 14 units in Altamont.

Implemented upgrades include:

    • high efficiency furnaces,

    • central air conditioning (including new ductwork).

    • programmable thermostats,

    • tankless water heaters,

    • LED light fixtures, LED bulbs inside and outside,

    • stoves,

    • Energy Star refrigerators,

    • range hoods,

    • double hung low-E vinyl windows,

    • continuous run bathroom exhaust fans,

    • attic insulation,

    • exterior door weatherstripping and door sweeps,

    • stools,

    • and water saving sink aerators and shower heads.

Implemented upgrades represent an average annual savings of: 

    • $272,160,

    • 102,755.01 kWh,

    • and 88.8 Greenhouse gas emissions (MTCO₂e).

Current Project

Award- $500,000

With the awarded funds, the Effingham County Housing Authority will make energy efficiency upgrades in 20 units across Dieterich, Montrose, and Edgewood, IL.

Recommended upgrades include:

    • high efficiency furnaces,

    • programmable thermostats,

    • exhaust hoods and range hoods,

    • water heaters and closets, 

    • LED light fixtures,

    • smoke and carbon monoxide detectors,

    • attic insulation, 

    • and miscellaneous weatherstripping, door sweeps, and air sealing.

The recommended project upgrades represent an average annual energy cost savings of approximately $10,000.

Housing Authority of Pope County

Award: $146,300

The Housing Authority of Pope County provides housing assistance to residents in Pope County, IL. With the awarded funds, the Housing Authority of Pope County will make energy efficiency upgrades at 20 units in Golconda.

Recommended upgrades include:

    • high efficiency on-demand water heaters,

    • and high efficiency gas furnaces.

The recommended project upgrades represent an average annual energy cost savings of approximately $12,667. 

Jackson County Housing Authority

Award: $420,000

The Jackson County Housing Authority provides housing assistance to residents in Jackson County, IL. With the awarded funds, the Jackson County Housing Authority will make energy efficiency upgrades at 20 units in Murphysboro.

Recommended upgrades include:

    • high efficiency condensing boilers with heat exchangers, pumps, and valves,

    • efficient variable speed drive pumps,

    • LED feixtures and bulbs, 

    • and Energy Star rated refrigerators.

Keyhole to Opportunity NFP

Award- $103,170

Keyhole to Opportunity NFP is a non-profit organization focused on providing safe, affordable housing for low-income residents based in Marion, Illinois. With the awarded funds, Keyhole to Opportunity NFP made energy efficiency upgrades at 36 houses in Cairo.

Implemented upgrades include:

    • attic insulation,

    • and new HVAC systems.

Implemented upgrades represent an average annual savings of: 

    • $2,300,

    • 18,800 kWh,

    • and 16 Greenhouse gas emissions (MTCO₂e).

Illinois Independent Living Center

Award- $221,498

Illinois Independent Living Center (IILC) is a non-profit facility that provides housing assistance in DuPage County, IL. With the awarded funds, IILC made energy efficiency upgrades at the Katherine Manor apartment facility in Naperville.

Implemented upgrades include:

    • insulation,

    • air sealing,

    • water heaters,

    • ventilation,

    • water circulation pump controls,

    • VSD air handlers,

    • energy efficient air conditioning units

    • exhaust fans,

    • Energy Star rated dishwashers and refrigerators, 

    • and outdoor exterior light fixtures.

Implemented upgrades represent an average annual savings of: 

    • $20,054.38,

    • 182,313 kWh,

    • and 161 Greenhourse gas emissions (MTCO₂e).
