Collectors, Recyclers, and Refurbishers

Collectors, Recyclers and Refurbishers who are operating under the program plan are required to register by Jan. 1.

Collectors are also required to submit the Collection & Transportation Report by March 1 of the following year. This report asks the collector to report the total pounds of devices collected according to specific categories and how many pounds have been transported from the collection site.

Collector responsibilities are outlined in Section 1-45 of CERA and recycler responsibilities are outlined in Section 1-40 of CERA.

CERA does not prohibit collectors and recyclers to operate outside of the IL E-Waste Program. Components of electronic devices that require special handling should be properly managed in a way that complies with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
