Algicide and Aquatic Pesticide Permits

Algicide Permits allow application of copper sulfate and potassium permanganate to water supply reservoirs for algae control. The Division of Public Water Supply issues permits which remain valid up to five years. Amended or reissued permits are required when changes are made in the treatment technique originally approved. Aquatic Pesticide Permits are required whenever chemicals other than copper sulfate or potassium permanganate are used to treat water supply reservoirs or other surface waters upstream of a public water supply intake.
