Fact Sheet 5 December 1994
Status Report
Southeast Rockford Groundwater Contamination
Rockford, Illinois
Winnebago County
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) completed the field work for phase II of the environmental investigation (remedial investigation) for the Southeast Rockford Groundwater Contamination project. The remedial investigation report will be made public around February 1995. A draft final study of groundwater remedies (groundwater feasibility study) will be available for-public comment several months after the release of the remedial investigation report.
In late 1995, the Illinois EPA will complete limited field investigatory work needed to fully define the extent of the contamination sources. When this study is complete, the Illinois EPA will present for public comment a draft final feasibility study focusing on source area remedies.
Within the next six months, the Illinois EPA will mail you two Fact Sheets: one summarizing the phase II remedial investigation report and the other summarizing the draft final groundwater feasibility study. The Fact Sheets also will inform you of public meeting public hearing dates and announce the public comment period fox the groundwater feasibility study.
