Storage Exemptions for Retailers
Tire Storage-Exempt Sites
Included in the definition of a "tire storage site" are exemptions to the annual registration requirements. If all your tires are stored in a building or so they are prevented from accumulating water AND if any of the exemptions below apply, your facility qualifies for the exemption and is considered STORAGE-EXEMPT (NOT A STORAGE SITE).
- Used tires are separated from the vehicle wheel rim at this site and never accumulate more than 250 used tires at any one time; OR
- Used tires are accepted in trade as part of the sales of new tires and never accumulate more than 250 used tires at any one time; OR
- This site sells tires at retail in the regular course of business and never accumulates more than 250 used tires at any one time; OR
- This site sells tires at retail and maintains less than 1,300 recyclable tires, 1,300 tire carcasses, and 1,300 used tires on site.
Complete Part A and under "Type of Operation" place an 'X" in the appropriate "Tire Storage-Exempt" box that applies to your facility. Skip Part B (if exemption applies) and complete Part C of the Notification and Registration Form. Remember to have only Illinois registered transporters transport your used tires and maintain records to document the dates and numbers of used tires removed from your site.
