AER Web Sites

• USEPA Technology Transfer Network: The Technology Transfer Network (TTN) is a collection of technical Web sites containing information about many areas of air pollution science, technology, regulation, measurement, and prevention. In addition, the TTN serves as a public forum for the exchange of technical information and ideas among participants and EPA staff.

• USEPA CHIEF (Clearinghouse for Inventories and Emission Factors): CHIEF is a collection of pages dealing with information on emission inventories, emission factors and emission modeling. The site also contains software that is useful to calculate emissions.

• USEPA's AP-42: The Emission Factor and Inventory Group (EFIG) of the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS) of USEPA develops and maintains emission estimating tools to support many activities. The AP-42 series is the principal means by which EFIG documents its emission factors. AP-42 contains process details and supporting reference material for the factors.

• USEPA Emission Inventory Improvement Program: The Emission Inventory Improvement Program (EIIP) is a jointly sponsored effort of the State and Territorial Air Pollution Program Administrators/Association of Local Air Pollution Control Officials (STAPPA/ALAPCO) and EPA, and is an outgrowth of the Standing Air Emissions Work Group (SAEWG). Funding is provided by state/local agencies through the federal 105 grant programs. The EIIP Steering Committee and technical committees are composed of state, local, industry, and EPA representatives. Membership on technical committees is open to any state or local agency representative, industry group, and the public; interested individuals should contact the appropriate committee cochair for information.

  The goal of EIIP is to provide cost-effective, reliable inventories by:

  • Improving the quality of emissions information, and
  • Developing system(s) for collecting, calculating, and reporting emissions data

Please note: The software that follows was developed by USEPA and not the Illinois EPA. Questions regarding the installation, use or identification of errors should be addressed to the appropriate staff at USEPA as indicated in the software documentation.

• WebFIRE (Factor Information Retrieval): WebFIRE is USEPA's online emissions factor repository, retrieval and development tool. The WebFIRE database contains EPA's recommended emissions factors for criteria and hazardous air pollutants for industrial and non-industrial processes.

• TANKS: TANKS is a Windows-based computer software program that estimates volatile organic material (VOM) and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions from fixed and floating-roof storage tanks. TANKS is based on the emission estimation procedures from Chapter 7 of USEPA's Compilation Of Air Pollutant Emission Factors (AP-42). TANKS will run under Windows 95, 98, or Windows NT. The program requires 8 MB of random access memory (RAM). The installed program requires 15 MB of available hard disk space. TANKS is designed for operation from a PC's hard drive.

• SPECIATE: SPECIATE is USEPA's repository of Total Organic Compound (TOC) and Particulate Matter (PM) speciated profiles for a variety of sources for use in source apportionment studies. SPECIATE will run under Windows 95/98 or Windows NT. The single file install version EXE file is a self-extracting 3 MB file. A 3-floppy disk image version is also available below. The extracted files will require 10.1 MB of hard disk space.
