Interim Status Closure/Post-Closure Projects

Instead of obtaining a hazardous waste permit, facilities sometimes choose or are required to close their hazardous waste management units. In such cases, these units must be closed in accordance with a plan approved by Illinois EPA. Information regarding the development and implementation of RCRA closure /post-closure plan can be found in the RCRA Interim Status Closure Guidance document.

The following form must be submitted along with the initial closure/post-closure plan and any subsequent modification requests to the approved closure/post-closure plan:

When the hazardous waste management unit(s) under RCRA Closure has/have been closed in accordance with the approved closure plan, a closure documentation report and a certification of completion of RCRA closure along with the LPC-PA18 Form (link provided above) must be submitted to Illinois EPA. A certification of completion of RCRA closure form is provided by Illinois EPA at the time of an approval of the initial closure plan. If the hazardous waste management unit(s) under RCRA closure has/have been closed with hazardous waste in place, then the unit(s) requires post-closure care. Conducting any RCRA post-closure care requires the facility to obtain a RCRA post-closure hazardous waste management permit for the unit(s).
