Energy Efficiency Assessment Program
The Energy Efficiency Assessment Program provides funding to public housing authorities, local governments, or nonprofit organizations to conduct energy efficiency assessments at properties benefiting residents receiving housing assistance from a state or federal program.
Why complete an energy efficiency assessment?
Energy efficiency assessments are an effective benchmarking tool to help reduce energy costs, improve building performance, and create climate resiliency in communities. A professional energy assessor or auditor conducts a site inspection and evaluates the residence to identify energy equipment, structural, and behavioral inefficiencies. Examples of recommendations found in the final report from an energy efficiency assessment can include installing programmable thermostats, adding insulation, or upgrading lighting fixtures.
Entities that receive an award and successfully complete an energy efficiency assessment are eligible to apply for funding to complete recommended upgrades through the Energy Efficiency Trust Fund Grant Program.
Who Can Apply
Public Housing authorities, units of local government (municipalities, counties, or townships) and nonprofit organizations that manage properties serving residents that receive rental assistance, housing choice vouchers or utilize subsidized housing assistance programs. Applicants in all utility service areas must verify that they are unable to receive an assessment through available utility programs prior to award.
Applications will be accepted until all funding has been expended. Awards will range from $5,000 to $25,000. Please refer to the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) linked below for additional details.
