Community Water Supply Testing Program
We Want To Be Your Laboratory
The Illinois EPA Laboratory provides comprehensive water testing for hundreds of Illinois community water supply facilities. Our pricing is based on our operating costs, and we make no profit in offering this service. Our focus is entirely on providing the best, most accurate and reliable data to our clients with great customer service.
The Illinois EPA is committed to providing our customers with 3C Satisfaction: Cost, Convenience, and Customer Service.
- We provide comprehensive chemical, radiological, and microbiological testing. Because microbiological samples have a short holding time requirement, some customers choose a lab closer to their facility for convenience. However, we are fully equipped to perform microbiological testing and are happy to handle these samples whenever it works best for you. There are several labs throughout the state that offer microbiological testing if proximity is a priority.
- We accept online electronic payments.
- We will ship your sample kits with everything you need to collect your samples simply, safely, and correctly. Each kit will include all required containers, ice packs and thermal coolers when needed. Sample containers that have chemical preservatives will come with a safety data sheet (SDS) and detailed sampling instructions.
- We report all your compliance sample results to SDWIS, saving your facility the time and responsibility of completing this requirement.
- We work closely with your facility and the Illinois EPA Compliance Assurance Section (CAS), serving as your liaison. We help you stay on track with your sampling schedule and monitor your samples to ensure they are collected on time.
- We offer a courier service for central and southern Illinois which enables you to drop your samples off at an Illinois EPA regional office or the IDNR field office in Benton. Samples will be delivered to our Lab saving your facility the cost of shipping the samples.
CWSTP Participation and Invoice Options
We will send you a participation notice and invoice, and you can choose from the two options outlined below. Regardless of whether you decide to use our laboratory for your required water testing, please return the completed and signed invoice letting us know your plans by December 1st.
Participation Options:
- No Participation: You will use another laboratory for your required chemical and coliform testing, and you will be responsible for reporting these results to the IEPA.
- Participation: You contract our lab to perform your required testing.
- If you choose Illinois EPA lab for your testing, you may choose another lab for your coliform testing, but you cannot have our lab do your coliform testing and not chemical.
Payment Options:
- Check: Make your check payable to the Illinois EPA and be sure the amount covers both your chemical and coliform testing. Please include your completed invoice with your check.
- Online Credit Card: We are now accepting online payments. If you are interested in using this option, follow this link and contact one of the laboratory staff below for instructions.
When mailing your participation notice and invoice back to the lab, please ensure the following:
- Include your check with your invoice. Your facility cannot be enrolled until payment is received.
- Do not send a check without the invoice. We must have your completed and signed invoice to enroll your facility.
- Make sure the invoice is fully completed: your participation choices are marked, the chemical and coliform amounts are added together for the total, and the contact information section at the bottom is filled out and signed.
Regardless of your participation status, please send your completed and signed invoice by December 1st to the laboratory at:
